Fitting woes?

Pour a fresh cuppa, grab your measuring tape, and let’s get real about fitting room heartbreaks for a minute.

If you’ve ever stood in a changing room fluorescent light, staring at a pair of pants that gape at the waist while suffocating your thighs (of course, that’s if you can get the pants up all the way!), I want you to take a deep breath: it is not your body. It has never been your body–it’s the design.

Since I was a teenager, finding ready-to-wear clothes that fit properly has been an absolute struggle. The story was always the same: waistbands too big, hip seams pulling, legs way too tight, sleeves too short, and shoulders broad enough to swim in. Grabbing a larger size off the rack solved one issue only to create three new ones! And don’t even get me started on what happens when your weight naturally shifts—gain or lose just a couple of kilos or pounds, and suddenly your favourite pants refuse to slide over your hips and thighs.

Eventually, I said: forget store-bought clothes. It was just too depressing.

Naturally, turning to sewing my own clothes felt like the ultimate rescue mission—until the pattern fit reality check hit.

Different pattern designers draft for entirely different “standard” blocks. My early modifications didn’t always fix the trouble spots. At one point, I started picking pattern sizes based on my bust measurement minus 2–3 inches. It was better, but still not great—and then literally EVERYTHING else except my shoulders needed a massive, complicated adjustment. Have you been there too?

For years, the one bright beacon of hope in the indie sewing world was Sewaholic Patterns, which drafted specifically for the pear-shaped figure. But as many of us in the sewing community know, there haven’t been any new designs from that line in over a decade.

That gap left so many of us pear-shaped makers back at square one, struggling to blend three sizes together just to get a comfortable fit.

Did you know?

Just over 20% of women have a pear-shaped body, making it the second most common female body shape.

So, I decided to take matters (and shears) into my own hands.

I started designing and drafting sewing patterns for the clothes I actually love to wear—garments proportioned from the start for pear-shaped curves, narrow shoulders, and full hips. No more guessing games, no more extreme pattern hacking, just charming, beautifully balanced designs that drape effortlessly and move with a real body.

The best part? Every time I step out of the house in these pieces, I get compliments!

That’s when the lightbulb went off: Why keep all this goodness to myself?

Welcome to Aletheia Patterns! I’ve packaged up these proven, curve-loving designs so you can stop wrestling with pattern hacks and get back to the sheer joy of creating.

You deserve a handmade wardrobe that feels as good as it looks—no fitting room tears required. Pull up a chair, check out new patterns as they come available, and let’s stitch something that loves your body exactly as it is!
